Valérie Blass
B 1967, Montreal QC / Resides: Montreal QC
Valerié Blass obtained her BFA from Université de Québec à Montréal and a MFA in visual and media arts from Université de Québec à Montréal. She has shown solo work in Montreal at Galerie Circa, Galerie B-312, Galerie Dare-Dare, and in Quebec at L’oeil de poisson and group shows at Galerie de l’UQAM and Galerie Clark. Her work is collected by The Museé du Québec as well as privately.
Working in sculpture, video and sculptural painting, Blass looks for tensions and relationships between form, figure and materials. Often using everyday objects and animals as a starting point to re-imagine a gallery context. She asks, for example, how an animal would perceive an abstract work? These animals and the reactions she films become the mediators to her sculptural installations.
